Picture frames!

We had a few old prints of hummingbirds and a near infinite supply of ash wood, so I made some frames. Here they are:

I don’t have any pictures of making the miters, but, I started with a couple of spare ash pieces, thicknessed them, cut into 16 equal pieces on the table saw, then mitered them on the table saw. I should have used a backing piece to prevent tear out. The recesses for the glass/print were done on the spindle moulder. After the glue-up, I used Joe’s spline jig to make recesses for splines:

Stellar work as always Max. I have a similar spline based Project that this is going to be a great guide for.

Jealous of your supply of ash !! Frames look good - the grain is fantastic. Have you oiled or waxed them ?

If I ever get around to becoming a member, I would like to use the spindle moulder to create my own mouldings.

I finished them with Osmo Raw - it’s an oil with a small amount of white pigment
