I turned a small box from some panga panga, very similar to wenge but not on the red list. Planing cuts with the skew chisel caused tear out so I used peel cuts and scraping cuts mostly. It scrapes beautifully and also sands really nicely. I used melamine lacquer for the finish and cut it back with 1200 grit abrasive pad and wax, followed by good quality xxxx steel wool and wax. The inside is left straight off the tools mostly. I won’t be doing shaped lid interiors in future for small boxes, but I do like the bead on the lid top. Not too shabby, I just need to work on the fine details. Overall I am fairly happy.

Excellent work. Really impressed with the finish you managed to achieve on the inside faces of the endgrain.
