Hey ho @members ! I would like to share with you my impression and my idea for the open evening! Everyone of us is doing a great job and now the space actually looks a makerspace and not a dump, so…
What about make the open evening something more intresting? till now all the open evenings that I saw were basically evenings of construction or just a couple of hours with someone inside the space! There is no way to predict the attendance of non members but I think we should do something to catch the eye of our guests… We should have something going on in these evenings
3d printer in action maybe? Everything could work, even someone trying to fix a kettle
I was thinking to dig up the copysaw from the snug and putt it in the front (o in the woodworking workshop once that is possible…) with some 3 mm ply and some cool patterns or drawings to cut! Is almost 0 danger and in 10 Min everyone can make something if not cool at least intresting! Same thing with the electronic benches… What about connecting the oscilloscope to “something”? Even just to show that we have it and it works!
I always felt that our open evening are a little sterile…
Just think about our "learn to solder " session, wasn’t that fun? I enjoyed a lot even if I already knew how to solder… And a lot of people of all ages enjoyed as well!
Despite the debate about recruitment I think we should move to make the open evenings more appealing, for the guest and for ourself!
What do you guys think?
Yes.
It’s been mentioned before, but as with everything, someone needs to organise it.
The scrollsaw idea is great!
I agree: the 3D printer should probably always be on during open evening. It’s still a source of fascination for many people. There’s a ‘Treefrog’ on the Ultimaker’s SD card, a reasonably quick print.
Other easy things: 3D doodler, ‘make you own cards’, maybe using the conductive paint we were given? There’s boxes of crafting stuff in the snug right at the end, top right. If someone wants to plan that?
Doesn’t take a massive amount of work to set up. But does take some.
Do we have a working Oscilloscope?
I would also like us to have clay. Lego and Meccano in the space for rapid prototyping (and playing with)
Ive got some clay…
lol (three years later, I know)
