Like techs In the other areas you would be expected to contribute about 3 hours per week of your spare time to the role. Ish. More if you wanted.
The kind of stuff that needs doing:
• helping finish the sewing corner
• adding stuff to and crossing things off the sewing corner to do list. https://discourse.southlondonmakerspace.org/t/textiles-to-do-list/4100
• ordering / maintaining consumables
• deciding on what other equipment we want to buy
• learning how to use the equipment we have
• showing users how to use the equipment
• coming up with ideas for, and possibly running workshops and demos.
• help keeping the area tidy and encouraging other members to do the same. A thankless tasks
• answering people’s queries on discourse.
• representing Textiles Techs at members meetings.
• working as part of a team
If you would like to nominate yourself pls send a message to @textilestechs.
If you need any more volunteers i’d be happy to be a tech. I don’t have any qualifications either, but I can use a sewing machine and have given workshops using conductive textiles and thread and simple surface design for textiles. I’m keen on the experimental side of textiles and hoping to do a bit of fabric manipulation using the laser cutter and sewing machine and fabric dying using plants from the park
