It’s official – the metal area is getting a VERTICAL MILL!
A beautiful, beastly chunk of machinery is joining the family. (More juicy details coming soon in a separate post.)
Here’s what we know:
Delivery Date:Monday, 23rd June Size: 1500mm x 1500mm x 2000mm Weight: 1050kg of pure potential Transport: A professional rigging company is handling the move – no need to panic about hernias.
Now comes the CALL TO ARMS!
We need the space ready by the evening of Sunday the 22nd, and that means a bit of a tidy-up mission. Ideally controlled. Hopefully not chaotic. Definitely fun (with the right soundtrack).
The To-Do List:
Clear the mill corner
Clear and clean behind the lathe
Remove rubber matting in the corner (and store it safely for reinstall)
Clear off the big metal table
Remove and safely store the vices
Temporarily relocate stuff under the table
Shift tables out of the way
Remove ALL scrap metal from the area
Do a scrap run to the dump (volunteers with vehicles welcome!)
Safety First!
The only mandatory requirement for helping out is: Sturdy, closed-toe shoes – preferably with steel toe caps.
There’ll be heavy stuff, awkward lifting, and the odd rogue bit of metal. No sandals, Crocs, or barefoot adventures, please.
We need YOU to help make this space better, shinier, and full of delightful new capabilities.
If you can lend a hand at any point before the 22nd, let me know in the thread below or via DM, and I’ll start organising a couple of work parties.
Bring your gloves, your good vibes, and your best “let’s shift some stuff” attitude – and let’s make space for our mighty new machine!
The stock in the passageway between metal and wood needs to go too!
Maybe we start commandering a small section of the floor in welding and/or in the snug, so that members like yourself who may have a spare hour here and there know where to put the stuff.
(unless @VintageSteel is against this?)
Big yes on keeping chipping away at the mess in general
I would clearly mark them somehow with @metaltechs etc. either directly on them or using don’t toss my project tags, otherwise they are technically up for grabs…
