Need help with my first wood work project

In a nutshell , I’m building a case for one of my computer and I would like to make it like this :

Minus the expensive aluminium machine faceplate.

But I was wondering, what kind of wood is this?

what’s the best solution to build a box like this? which technique I should study? material? tools?

Thank you !

That might be rosewood veneer, good luck. …
Remember that probably cost about 10% the value of a house when new

Go with American black walnut in my opinion.

I like your practical approaches to costs.

It’s the reason why old auido gear is built like battleships

I know, right?

does it sound bad if I lasercut the case and then I veneer it ?

I wonder what’s the limit of thickness on the Laser cutter…

Perfectly sense to me , probably best to find laser MDF as it will not move

12mm

Can we laser MDF now?

I think laser MDF is ok

If it is rosewood then you can’t really buy it for much longer anyway as there is a worldwide trade ban on it. American black walnut is an okay substitute or some of the african hardwoods.

Rosewood was common on hifi in the 70s

I hate you…

MDF is fine. It was banned when we only had interior filtering, cos formaldehyde would make it through the filters.

I’ve seen some really nice aluminium faceplates made from laser etched anodised aluminium.

I have got some 19" panels you can have
