Nec pc + ssd

@tomnewsom @adamjpage ?

The PC is currently Snugged. Its been supplanted somewhat by the HP machines. We may well stick it back on the plotter when that comes out of the pile.

So… Do we want to dig it out and SSD it? That’s what the restarter is asking.

Or SSD a machine that’s in-use (looks at laser cutter PC?), but that might not be the offer.

I have offered a fully working NEC tower computer with XP clean installation. I think you use this as a print server or something. Then I heard you will have a restart party soon at your new venue. I was wondering if you would be interested in installing SSD to (any old ) computers.

I have been promoting a SSD as a solution to make computers life extend significantly. I am more than happy to attend the event to do some installation work with you, That was my original idea.

A bit technical one. XP does not support TRIM function, and some people wrongly believe that you cannot use SSD with XP, which is not true at all. But you will need a SSD with good garbage collection function.

SSD became very affordable, you don’t need a large one, 64GB-128GB ? So 30-50 pound for 3-5 years warranty. Recently we have made a case study, 2007 notebook XP (hard disk) bootup takes 3 minutes, after replacing with SSD, boot up takes 30 second!
