At Launch Day I got mugshots of all members there to resurrect the mug-shot wall. It was a good community thing we had at the pop-up space in the Good Companion: you knew who members were by face, and could put names to faces.
To make this a real thing, rather than a one-off that stalls, we need to make some way of doing this when people first visit the space as members. A photo printer mainly, but also a photobooth would be, ah, maker-spacey. A photobooth-pi, even more so.
Does anybody want to take this on? Raspberry-Pi with the Pi’s camera? Better would be a tethered real camera (prob not too hard to find a discarded compact camera). Or bluetooth receive a photo?
All in the eye of the beholder, really. Doesn’t have to be a literal photobooth. But some “hack” to get “nice” photos. Thinking of which, triggertrap screamgrabs!
I guess working for a photobooth company I can claim to be qualified, would be quite nice to have, even though it may not get used that much.
What format the print out takes is a nice challenge, could be a CNC whiteboard marker or stick drawing in the sand (Google exhibit had this if any one saw?)
I tested a Pi Camra v2.1 today, sony sensor 8MP, really quite good image that we’ll probably use in production, so think we could just use that.
I can throw together a python app to to the interaction, but nice physical buttons would be good, at work they use touch screen: boring. Ha, just seen screamgrab! Amazing! Yeah something like that
Maybe I’m just out of the loop and not in here (discourse) enough but my feeling is there isn’t really a cohesive plan for what we want to do in messy and snug.
Can’t we all sit down and discuss a) what we want and b) where it’s going.
We can have a deadline for the planning stage. Get the ideas stage (discussions) out the way and then move forward quickly with the build.
If we plan on paper what we are going to do it would be easier to chop up work and even have working parties for each sub section.
Just an idea. But that’s what you do in project management and this seems like a project.
No. I meant to reply to this one. There are lots of ideas being banded around for different things but I’m not aware of a master plan.
I think these things can work. But I think it’s worth planning them to fit as much as possible in to the remaining space. Including a photo booth if that’s what we want. That’s why I posted in this one. Again, maybe I’m out the loop
The term photobooth makes it sound like a room, they are talking about a camera on the wall with a screen. I.e. It doesn’t take up any real space.
It doesn’t need planning in because of this. As for your other point. I am not sure what your concern is about the planning. Could you raise a new topic outlining this?
The messy space thread is a bit messy, its a thread about extraction, weilding, the snug / phase III and all the activities in there, and its also melting my brain a bit. Maybe just needs separating out a bit though I feel like we’ve got a general consensus and a way forward because nothing too permanent is happening, just a load of workbenches.
and yeah the photo’booth’ is a raspberry pi on the wall innit bruv
…in general:
I get its just a thingy on a wall but which wall?
What other things are we having in messy and snug?
Where are they going? What are we having?
Could the photo booth and drying thingy for screen printing be in same space if they are hanging things.
I’m not asking for answer per say I just think it would need some planning. Maybe there is planning but I’m unaware of a clear vision at the moment. Maybe it’s too early for a clear vision the week after the great work we’ve put in for phase 2 open day. Hopefully my point is a bit clearer now…
I just checked the messy thread and there’s also ‘photobooth’ mentioned there, which is unrelated – confusing for all. I was thinking purely of getting something mug-shot-y, and just blithely used the term photobooth to get the ideas going (sorry!). It’s got nothing to do with whoever proposed a photobooth in the messy room.
I agree on social. It might be all is needed is a ‘prop’ and a mobile phone upload to discourse. There’s something to ensuring the light etc. is decent though.
We just need a printer that take s a picture with a bright flash so you get a face without the background, it can leave space for a name. Print it and put it on the wall of members somewhere
