Mini CNC dust extraction issue

Today while working with the mini CNC machine I had a significant problem with dust extraction. I noticed there are two large breaks in the tube that attaches to the vacuum, meaning there is almost no actual extraction at the mouth by the cutter. I’d love to get thoughts from the @CNCtechs to see what I should do.

The piece I am working with needed a large amount cleared before a final carving pass, and I kept having to stop and restart the clearing cut because the sawdust was building up and smoking.

Is there a possible fix for this? EIther a way to get the extraction going properly, or a way to lower the amount of heat I’m generating as I cut, so it doesn’t risk igniting.I have 10 pieces to cut, which are all going to have a similar clearing issue (unless someone would be kind enough to induct me on the large CNC!).

I have done my best to close the large hole on the exterior part of the tube with duct tape, but the inner one is moving repeatedly, and also tied just by the hole, so I didn’t want to make any changes there.

This needs replacing by the looks of it. The blue tube was me and was in part to patch over a small hole at the time. But it looks like that time has long since been and gone

If you’re generating a lot of heat have a look at the endmill you’re using, a lot of the 6mm endmills we have have taken a beating, and struggle with higher pass depths, either low depth passes or fresh endmills should help.

I can have a look at the state of what we’ve got when I get a chance, we might have a replacement, and maybe we need to adjust the settings on those endmills

I’m also doing a big CNC induction tomorrow at 6:30pm if you want to pop along and join

The blue part means that tape should be a reasonable fix for that outer hole — well planned on your part.

Thank you, I will be there for the induction tomorrow!

Hey James,

I’m not at the point yet where I’ve completed enough projects to be inducted on the big CNC,
But I’d appreciate it if I could just shadow from the background if that’s alright?
Always gives me a better understanding to see others projects in action!

Hey Joel, yeah that’s fine
