Come and join us for Metal Night!
From 6pm until late, the metalshop will be open for a relaxed, informal evening of making, fixing, experimenting and generally hanging out with other people who like making things out of metal.
Bring along a project you’ve been working on, a broken thing you’ve been meaning to fix, or an idea you’ve had knocking around in your head. We’ll see what we can do with it.
Don’t have a project? That’s fine too. There is always something in the makerspace that needs making, fixing, modifying or maintaining, and the metalshop techs will be around to help you find something interesting to get stuck into.
Never used the metalshop before? Even better! come and have a look! You don’t need to be an expert, or even inducted! And you don’t need to know exactly what you want to do. If you’re curious about milling, turning, welding, fabrication or just working with metal in general, come and have a chat.
There won’t be a formal class or a rigid programme. Sometimes there might be a demonstration, an interesting project or a particular job happening, but mostly it’s just people making stuff, helping each other and having a good time in the metalshop.
And yes, you can come even if you’re not inducted. You can look around, ask questions and get involved. If you want to use machinery, you’ll need appropriate supervision until you’re inducted on that machine. That’s a safety requirement and isn’t negotiable ; but it shouldn’t stop you coming along and getting started!
Metal Night is free to attend. If you need some material, you can also buy bits and pieces from the metal stock shop.
