Making a bench

Hiya

I’ve got a project I’m working on at the moment.
I’m making a bench out of wood.

I need to use the cut saw, plainer thicknesser, and drill press.

How do I access these tools? I’ve had an informal induction on the cutsaw.

Pls advise

@woodtechs

Will try to sort it out , we will try and get a better system soon

I was hoping to do it this weekend.
I’ve been waiting a couple of weeks to do this already. (Well about 4 months in total.)

Will try to be around

Great thanks Joe.

is stephano able to give inductions on these?
im only asking because i know how busy you are and how valuable your time is.

Yes he is good

HEY!!! :frowning: my time is not valuable now? Ok, for you the induction will be 100 £!

Haha I’ll show you how to use it, but we need to sort out a form of risk assessments! I’ll try to see what I can do today, so you can have the induction asap!

Sorry, I was going to mention that dude!
Yes. Stephano time is worth a lot too!!

Great. Thank you

Just for clarity there is no way to do an official induction right now because no induction has been written or even forms created for people to sign to say they’ve completed it.

Then you need to stop advertising the place as somewhere you can use woodwork tools.

Or you need to be more flexible

Ok, simmer down Paul. @unknowndomain is quite right about this.

Yes he is. There are no tools ready to use for any one. And there won’t be for months. We are lying to people when we say you can do these things

I have no idea who is saying that the workshop is operational right now, when you say you I am not really sure who you actually mean.

It’s clearly a little way off yet and we’ve been really transparent about that, people are working really hard on getting these things sorted and have been for a while.

I think this is probably an exaggeration as the @woodtechs have done a great job and it’s really just down to RA and Induction process now, but these things take time, but we’re not talking months I don’t think.

It seems very clear @boldaslove from what you said to me the other day that you’ve decided that you’ve done enough construction and want to start using the space.

This is a frustration I fully understand, but we can’t be more flexible as this is people lives we are dealing with, not just yours if you get seriously injured, but that of those responsible for the accident if it has to be reported to the HSE, thats the directors and responsible people in the space.

Honestly I thought that this was not a problem! I had in mind to came out to an induction form for Paul today, making him to sign it… I was thinking to have a temporary form, maybe not perfect but enough for h&s!
Can I go ahead or is not enough or the induction form must be approved by directors or something?

Hey guys, just joining this discussion as a recent woodworking topic to let you know I plan to come to come down tomorrow for several hours to help with anything I can. Let me know what help is needed (physical or h&s induction forms etc).

Great! Nice one Alec.

Have a look at these threads for this weekend and decide which day(s) you want to come down:

I don’t see that inductions need to be pre-approved. RAs should be done in advance, and the directors should have sight of them before inductions take place, as ultimate legal responsibility lies with us.

As I’ve said, the process will improve organically.
