As I now have access to quite a bit of acrylic sheet for free through work, I would love to make a resource page of any and all makerspace replacement files for cutting in acrylic (or mdf). This way we can have all vector files on hand to replace protectors, windows, and shields readily.
Do any of you have files already?
I’m more than happy to measure things and make files for whatever makerspace pieces we would like.
Things like media blaster viewing window, table saw shield, etc.
What kind of thickness of sheets do you have access to?
It would be incredibly useful for the mill guard box (not yet designed) but we probably need sheets material too large even for our lasercutter
The table saw shields were indeed manufactured in-house with our laser cutter, but a fair few years ago, finding the files might be challenging, but the woodtechs will now better
I was actually planning to replace the media blaster window! I already have it measured up and currently waiting for thread rolling screws to arrive. I’ve been patiently waiting for the laser cutter to come back online to get an acrylic panel cut.
I was considering getting a sheet of PETG film (or something similar) for the inside surface of the window as it would be easier to replace from time to time.
The table saw guard was made in 2016, but this thread indicates nobody has the original files. Not sure if anything surfaced since in silence.
The bigger we go, the less it’s really considered an ‘offcut’ and is just remaining stock. I can swing a moderate piece on occasion though. I can look into getting better deals on materials through work either way.
Hello Neil
By amazing coincidence I am just pulling together materials to make some custom fit secondary glazing for my flat. I am using 3mm acrylic for a corner-fit single glazed section of my window. So I will need to bend the sheet by 90 degrees to fit.
If you have experience working with acrylic - in particular bending neatly and accurately using a heat gun (I imagine?) then I would really appreciate your guidance. In any event if you have a few small off-cuts I could cadge to practice heat bending that would be amazing too (sorry if that’s too cheeky).
Let me know when you are around at the space and I’ll seek you out, if that’s OK.
Best wishes,
David
