Makers Dinners: First Service @ 7pm, Wednesday 8th October?

Hi everyone,

A few of us have been interested in the idea of communal dinner(s) in the Makerspace. The gist could be something along these lines.

FORMAT:

  • A semi-regular meal, each led by a different maker(s) with supporting chef(s)
  • A donation of choice from participants to cover the cost of ingredients and a little surplus towards a kitchen kitty
  • A list to register interest in the proposed menu, suitable for feeding 16 or so with limited kitchen facilities
  • Eating together around the main table and beyond if necessary

TIMING: One idea is to time these around the non-open evening Wednesdays, so every other week or so, potentially starting next week, Wednesday 8th October at 7pm. It could also be a time to consider whether something like this is worth doing regularly, and how.

FIRST MEAL MENU: If approved, Sam and I were thinking of a warming vegan lentil+veg Thai green curry with rice, with a heads up about the intention for coriander to be heavily involved. There could be snacks from 7pm, with dinner served around 7.30pm, and the possibility of a dessert could be entertained.

SOME CONSIDERATIONS:

  • We’d need to be quite heavily using the tops, cooker and oven from around 5pm
  • We’d try to clean as we go to keep the kitchen somewhat acceptable and accessible
  • An extra pair of hands for chopping and cleaning would be welcome, and to help make sure rodents don’t feel invited
  • The current proposal means taking over the clean room table from 7pm, so please let us know if you imagine this to be a particular issue

All feedback welcome, we’ll leave it a few days to marinate. Best wishes to all,

Marc + @samj

This is a terrific idea!

Lovely idea! I use to cook large meals a lot and now down to none. Currently Im exploring making diabetic friendly food which needs to be low carb for myself and my mother - I made my first batch of low carb Pakora/Onion bhaji using flax seeds as my flour/bulk this week, lasted seconds

I mostly cook asian fusion (Thia/Chinese blend), Mediteranian and Indian with a focus on low carbs as we cant handle them anymore :frowning: so no rice, pasta, spuds, or bread :frowning:

I do a really nice Korean style hotpot!

yes please!

Sounds good to me
