Make d'space -build day 15 oct

Hello to our 150 + members (Trustees, tool techs and regular members). We are working to complete some building work this weekend.
We need as many people as we can get for work, beer and pizzas.
We hve turned a crappy dirty naked brick arch into a cool space.
We need a final big push to make it a fully usable space.
Help us, help you to help yourselves

All types of things to do with a variety of involvement, come down for an hour if you can

cheers

Hey Conomara, great post, Thank You. Perhaps Saturdays could always be a Make d’space day. Actually they often are!

There’s an excellent core group who regularly get stuck in at the weekends and those people Make the Space grow every week. I love to see it developing, there’s always a nice surprise to get excited about when I go there.

It’d be amazing to have even more of the Maker Space Community come along. No pressure on anyone, it has to fit into your life, we’re all busy, especially those with family & kids or other important commitments.

Honestly, even an hour or so makes a big impact! It’s True that nothing ever get’s done without people coming together to do what they can. Doesn’t matter what it is, everything makes a good difference.

Also, how good is it to meet each other, the more the merrier for sure!

Many hands Make d’space hey

I’ll be there!

Already achieved today:

  • @conomara became the first member to have a general Makerspace induction (by yours truly, writing up induction crib sheet next)

  • @boldaslove planted tulips in the garden

  • @Rino_Pucci made this weight for the projector screen that @Nick_Benson fitted last week (tack welding by Stefano)

Ongoing work: @stefano and @Robert_Kiggins working on clearing snug, @boldaslove building textiles area, @frasco sorting engineering/metalwork area (please keep this in order), @Robert_Kiggins sorting the corded power tools (solving the issue of self-tangling flexes!)

@StudioNelle see photo in last post: the weight to hold screen down is on table under TV

It’s looks fancy and way to complex for a old schoo like me - anyone around tomorrow to help set up?

Two clips!

I’ll give it a go

Huge amount done today.
Theres a full (small) hipppo bag by the gate.
Also there is a tonne of scrap metal out the front of the space, some put there
tonight, alot accumulated over time.

The big things we realised when we were cleaning up, was

1:there is tonnes of wood everywhere. we badly need a storage solution, and system for constantly
evaluating what we need and getting rid of what we don’t.
Woodtechs.

2:there is an un believable amount of laser ply everywhere, can’t stress how much. This needs a storage solution
and a system for constantly evaluating and getting rid of what we dont need.
LaserTechs. This is a big deal in making the messy room usable.

3:there is a fair bit of metal around as well, again with no storage system and prob no way of regulating.
messy room techs?!

4: we need storage systems for elctronics area as well, as far as I know design is done and pip and pete are
looking into implemeting.

2: The laser induction we run should be telling @lasers users not to leave scraps by the laser cutter, when you use it, please throw your scraps away, or take them home.

Is not a problem only about scrap… there is plenty of useful material and new sheets laying around!

A bunch of that is mine/Norwood Road sign project stuff.

It would be nice to put them together and label them if possible. Do you want them as yours or are you offering them to the space? Just for clarity. No hassle.

Not sure what the status of the sign project is. Need to find some of the missing parts of the prototypes and get them painted and glued.

I’ve offered use of some of the sheets to Pip before, but obviously they represent a monetary investment by me so will hang on to most of them.

I think it’d be a good idea if any leftover materials from a project that you don’t need were offered to all.

Everything costs good money which is always hard earned, I don’t like to see anything being thrown out when there’s use left. It’s wasteful and a real shame.

Maybe the offer to MakerSpace members should have a deadline for response and agreement for collection. If storage is necessary, then a good reason and timeline for using the material is important to agree too.

This will all fit very well with a ‘timed chucking out system’ as mentioned elsewhere.

Cool :ok_hand:

Strictly speaking, if you haven’t received permission from the membership to store materials in the space, they should be removed.
