Machine Knitting Tutorial

Tags: #<Tag:0x00007fa496dee120>

Hi folks,

I’ve gotten to know the Knitmaster machine very intimately over the past few months, so I’d like to share what I’ve learned through a quick tutorial. There are a few aspects that can trip new users up, so the aim would be to cover the basics and help you to avoid common mistakes.

I would hope to cover:

  1. Unpacking the machine
  2. Understanding the different parts
  3. Attaching the carriage and tension unit
  4. Preparing the yarn
  5. Threading the yarn through the tension unit
  6. Setting gauge and stitch size
  7. Understanding the carriage controls
  8. Casting on
  9. Knitting first few rows
  10. Attaching weights
  11. Using the electronic pattern reader
  12. Casting off
  13. Packing the machine away

Although I’d be demonstrating on the Knitmaster, the knowledge would be broadly applicable to the Brother machine as well.

If anyone’s interested, please let me know and I can suggest some potential dates!

Yes pls !

Great to see so many responses!

I’ve set up a Doodle poll - please select the date/time that suits you best:

I might run more than one session, depending on responses.

I used it ages ago but I could do with a reminder.

Just to follow up - I’d like to book the textiles area for these tutorials, so I’ve requested shutter access.

If anyone with access can vouch for me, I’d really appreciate it!

Hi folks! I’m finally able to host these sessions, so I’ve booked a couple of two-hour slots in September:

Wednesday 11th September, 19:00 - 21:00
Saturday 14th September, 13:00 - 15:00

Please edit the linked event and add your handle to the ‘Textiles Area’ section to let me know you’re coming.

Also, please let me know if there’s anything specific you’d like me to cover aside from the points listed above.

Thanks!
