Machine Knitted Mittens

Here’s a pair of mittens I made as an Xmas gift for my Mum!

I based them on this pattern, which is only in Norwegian, but can be run through Google Translate.

I used this yarn, which is a 2-ply (2/17s) lambswool yarn from Knit Works:

I used two strands, which is appropriate for a standard gauge machine like ours.

This is the ribbing to create the cuff:

And this is the palm, up until the thumb:

On the right is the thumb gusset - this is made by partial knitting with waste yarn (in white), which is eventually removed:

On the left is the tip of the mitten, also made by partial knitting:

This is the mitten laid flat, minus the thumb:

Here’s the straight portion of the thumb being knitted:

Here’s the mitten before any seaming takes place:

And here’s the tip of the hand and thumb after seaming:

After that, I used mattress stitch to join each of the sides.

Here’s the finished mittens on their person:

They look great

Amazing work @jamesnwalker how long did it take?

I think each mitten took about three hours to knit and three hours to seam, but there were a lot of mistakes made along the way!

I’m hoping to adapt this pattern so it involves a bit less seaming, because that’s probably the most laborious part of it.
