Join Us for Luther Night – Friday, November 8th, 7 PM-9 PM!
The @luthiers group will be meeting in the Clean Room to talk all things guitar. Whether you’re looking for advice on setups, repairs, modifications, electronics, or full builds, we’re here to help. If you have an instrument in need of some attention or one that’s been gathering dust, bring it along, and we’ll take a look.
@luthiers, is there a specific topic you’d like to discuss or an area you’d like to learn more about? Let us know!
Hello,
on the next night I would love to have some help for a couple of guitars I am rebuilding.
One is a bent neck that I am not able to get straight. I would like to know if there are techiques to do it before re-doing fret board and thruss rod?
The other one is an ultra heavy Les Paul with a very thick body and a very loose bolt on neck. I would like to learn to use the planing machine to take wood off to make it thinner and learn how to re-design the cavities.
For the neck I will probably need help in building a shim making sure the neck will be centered.
For the neck, I’d be thinking about heat and clamps to allow the neck to move to the position you want.
To reduce the thickness of the guitar body I would either use planes or the drum sander. Do any @luthiers and tool control for the drum sander and have any experience using it?
Another reminder that this Friday is LUTHIER NIGHT! 7 - 9PM in the Clean Room, where the whole table is booked for your guitar and other stringed instrument questions, adjustments, repairs or projects in progress.
Is this event open invite to all members or closed to the luthiers group? Apoloigies if that’s a naive question, I’m new here!
I’m close to a novice in this area but I’m interested in guitar maintanence and hoping to take on a full buidling project in the near future. Would love to come along and see how you operate.
Hey, yes we’re open to all. Very happy to chat and the group can answer questions. If you’ve got an instrument that needs any work done feel free to bring it in and we can help.
