Thingiverse.com - great collection with good interface. But the company behind it has not got a great history with the open source community.

YouMagine - Site managed by Ultimaker and prefered site for open source afficionadoes.

MyMiniFactory - Used by more advanced designers it seems to showcase portfolio. Some items payable

pinshape - A mix of the above with annoying proprietary DRM philosophy. Many items are payable some are free.

Reprap.org The reprap wiki. The place to start. All the variations of the reprap based 3d printers can be found here. Files downloaded to print parts. Bills of materials and instructions to follow.

Forums.reprap.org The reprap forum. For anything to do with 3d printing. This is the forum the makers and shakers of 3d printing hang out in. It’s open to every one from beginners to developers working on the latest hardware and software.

Simplify 3D Payable and not cheap but astonishing slicing features unmatched by free alternative.

Firmware

3D Modelling

tinkercad - Entry level for beginner online only run in the browser. Feel pretty much like DIY stitching things up together. Not great for building organic shape and challenging for building technical parts.

123D Design - A bit more advanced than Tinkercad installable software with more grounded define CAD methodology without getting too complex. Still not great to build organic shape.
