End of season for my son’s team so we needed 16 trophies for the 2 squads.
I took my previous effort and refined the tiger.
My masking tape learning from the previous project saved me a lot of time that I would have had to spend sanding small fiddly parts.
Main lessons from this venture are:
- the base was way too fiddly for what it is. Not only did they take too long, I think design-wise the tiger should be the focus and therefore more elaborate, the base should be simple. I should use the laser when I cannot make it any other way, I could have done the base using other tools.
- when creating these types of things that are both generic (head and base) and personalised (name plate) just fixing them together somehow (friction, a small bolt etc. rather than glue) is probably the way to go, as mistakes are easy to remedy. i.e. you can just swap out a name plate if you’ve made a spelling mistake rather than having to make a whole new one! Seems obvious in retrospect.
I already have ideas for next seasons improvements and thinking about scaling this up to a lifesize tiger head using laser cuts as templates then a router to cut thicker wood perhaps.
