This needs tweaking (the monitor touches the top of the keyboard if you swing it out), but it’s better than it was!
FYI: The reason the monitor was put behind the laser is so that you could easily look at the position on the screen and down to the bed and back and forth in an eye movement, rather than physically turning back and forth.
Also it was at standing height.
Seems like it was better where it was as it didn’t require that shelf which looks in the way, blocks access to the buttons and makes it possible for the lid to hit the monitor, not to mention the cables everywhere.
All that was needed to fix the situation was a wireless keyboard and mouse and a place to put them when the lid is open, and finally a bit of plastic application tape to frost the front edge of the laser cutter so you can use a optical mouse on it.
You might also consider a smaller mouse shelf but the keyboard isn’t used much during operation.
I’m going to bring in my monitor mounts next week. If @lasertechs can decide where to mount it I will happily install a good spot with a wireless keyboard (i can provide).
For me keyboard is important, otherwise I agree that having the screen where it was worked well.
I have application tape if we want to try a bit on the laser lid for mouse manoeuvres.
I can see the point of not having to turn your head to see the positioning etc but I did find myself having to lean over the cutter to be able to read the screen as its quite a high res and quite a long way back.
When I ran the induction I had to bring the monitor onto the bed of the cutter so everyone could see it.
The cables/tidyness aside as things can be tidied with extentions etc could we hook up two monitors, one at the back and one on the shelf, this will then cater for all personal preferences.
I must say I am moderately against using the top of the cutter as a table top as will this not lead to scratching and extra wear on it?
But if both the KB and mouse are wireless then people can use them wherever they like.
Would it be worth looking at getting an identical monitor (IE same resolution) then we can have the cutter duplicated on both?
I also think this goes a long way to hiding the sockets half way up the wall
Should be fixed by an adjustable arm and increasing the font size a bit.
The application tape will prevent this:
okay cool, is the monitor arm going to be behind the cutter, as this will mean having to move it again each time you want to open the lid, but if the general consensus is not to have a monitor on the shelf then will go with that.
Why not leave it where it is for a couple of weeks and see what people’s real world experience of it is?
The same could be said of the original plan?
Well, yes, but let’s try it for a while now it’s there.
Different people have different issues: universal one was ‘annoying mouse’, the other was ‘not quite comfortable to use the keyboard’.
As I said: I’ll bring in transfer tape and we can try out your neat solution for the mouse.
I think that has been done, but I meant more the issue with the monitor in that photo is it’s in the way, and it’s at hip height, not head height.
