Laser Cut Induction

Hi there!! My name is Izzy and I am new to South London Makers. I am wanting to use the laser cutter and hoped there may be someone who can give me an induction next week? I will provide chocolate if that is any incentive? Or I can show you how to use the sewing machine if you fancy learning a new skill?

Thanks so much!
Izzy

Izzy, what a lovely way to introduce yourself! The laser cutter inductions are regular but not timetabled yet, MakerSpace are working to do this. What is it you want to do with the laser cutter?

I would love you to show me how to work the sewing machine cus my, Honest to God, 20 year old M&S duvet cover & pillowcases are disintegrating nightly. I love them and so mended the small rips twice recently but now there are Huge Bitza Rips. No way am I recycling them, I want to repair them for the next 20 years. I bought them when I first came to London.

I can help you make jewellery from metal or beads and would love you to draw with us on Wednesday evenings 7-9. There are so many skills the members of MakerSpace have that I don’t understand yet so you can collaborate there too.

Chocolate is a bitgood.com

Hi Jackie,

Thanks for responding to my message. I will be wanting to do a few experiments with cutting/etching different designs into leather and wool which is for a project I am working on at the moment. But jewellery would also be amazing! If you are able to give me the induction, is there any chance you are free next week at some point? I could show you how to use the sewing machine then too!

One of the @lasertechs should be able to sort you out an induction soon.

(Because I put the @ symbol they’ll be notified about this message and should get back to you soon)

Alternatively: a skills swap might work here as you’re on a tight deadline.

So if you share a skill with someone who has laser access they might operate the cutter on your behalf.

Aha! Cool too!

Hi Izzy

I am not one of the laser inductors and don’t have the experience/skill for my work yet. I am happy to show you what I know and as Paul says there will be an induction soon.

Now that the LaserTechs have this thread I’m sure they’d be happy for you to show them skills you have for mutual benefit.

I think Dermot’s suggestion of a Skills Swap is a very good idea though I am not sure how to implement this - Dermot and Paul, how could this be organised? Can I help in anyway?

It’s an excellent way to learn, collaboration is always a winner!

Hello! Thank you for your help. I am more than happy to do a skills swap - I studied fashion design at university so could teach someone how to use the sewing machine, or give suggestions on how to do basic clothing adjustments?

If anyone who can use the laser cutter would be interested in this skills swap then let me know!
