Laptop giveaway

As I announced recently, I have replaced the makerspace Toshiba laptops with newer/better HP laptops. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THESE LAPTOPS.

Since then, I have had quite a few requests for the old laptops.
I have 28 of the old laptops (shockingly poor condition, Windows 10 only).

I propose the following:

  1. I’ll release the laptops in small batches by placing them in the 3 week box.
  2. I’ll update this thread to say how many are available.
  3. If you want just one or two for personal/family/friends, help yourself.
  4. If they get to the 1 week box, @Lia will take them for a charity.

If you would like several for a charity, send me a direct message and I’ll arrange a separate batch.
I don’t get to the space very often, so I can’t arrange handovers of individual laptops to individual members.

The first laptop is in the 3 week box.
Old, but good.
i5 with 12GB RAM and a 237GB SSD.
Windows 10 only.

I put 4 laptops in the 3 week box, with chargers underneath the pile.
Similar spec as those delivered previously

Hello , is it posibble to have one laptop to experiment to run Linux Edubuntu on it please ?

That said, are these intended for members only or anyone including non-members who sees this and needs a laptop? Or no preference?

I don’t mind.
Members from the space.
Non members can arrange one directly from me.

I’m dropping off 3 laptops tonight at 6pm
One is allocated to a specific member, but will be fair game if it reaches the 1 week box
The others are both Windows 10:

  • 1 x i5, 8GB RAM, 250GB SSD
  • 1 x i3, 8GB RAM, 250GB SSD

I’m bringing in a laptop this evening.
It will go in the 3-week box.

Unlike the previous laptops which were very, very old, this one is actually quite good!
Still on a first-come-first-served basis, but I would love it to go to someone in need.
