Is this fixable?

I’ve never needed to solder surface mount components. Is this fixable?

I thought it was just the connectors on the side that needed fixing but I was wrong

It is fixable, with no experience? Probably not, but if you arm yourself with flux and watch a couple of videos you might, using the microscope at the space

Hmmm. In that case I might not try, there’s an e-ink display on the other side that will get damaged easily.

It has a 3.7v lipo input and I’m sure I have one lying around to use. I’ll just have to accept I can never reprogram it :frowning:

It looks like you can easily program it with the rx and tx pins combined with the two buttons and a usb to TTL adapter.

You don’t need the USB C port.

Let me know if you need any help

You also need to find a GND connection, I can’t see one broken out. The earth on the battery connector might work, if not it might need a wire connected to ground side of one of the buttons.

Does it have a schematic?

It’s been programmed to do what it needs for now so it’s not a great loss.

I’m not sure how you use tx and tx without poking a pin through display on the other side. There are a few resources for it online - https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_MagTag_PCBs/blob/main/Adafruit%20MagTag%20ESP32-S2%20pinout.pdf

There’s a ground connection.

I have some special spring connectors that will properly connect to rx and tx without soldering.

So just give me a shout if you ever need to program it.

I’ll solder it for you. I’m gonna try to come to the space over the weekend. so if you drop it off or wanna meet, Sure thing. - just let me know so i can bring some stuff.

I don’t see any lifted pads. Looks like the solder joints broke. Do you see any damage to the pads that’s not in the photo?

Doesn’t look to have any damaged pads from what I can tell. I’ll be in this afternoon with it

i reckon about 130pm I’ll be arriving

I just got here!

Thank you so much @electronoob for helping out. It’s back at home and working again. I really appreciated you taking the time to explain what you were doing on top of fixing it!

Please ignore the aweful quality 3d print from old terrible petg

i gotta say, i have always preferred dodgy functional prints over perfect pointless ones, but in this case i thought the texturing enhanced the overall aesthetic. tis nice!

you are very welcome - i appreciated your attitude and feel glad to have helped you.

It’s not dodgy, it’s woodgrain textured!
