Internet Down in Arch 2

The Internet is down in Arch 2 due to a network loop or other fault that I can’t find. There is no usable working at height equipment in the space.

Woodshop is on bypass.

I will reboot the whole network after the members meeting.

@unknowndomain did this get resolved…?

It seems to be working now.

I’m not sure if I was chasing my own tail or if there’s a real issue, but there’s definitely some kind of STP issue.

It might be a configuration issue, I’m not sure will investigate.

On a side note I a heat map I made of the Wi-Fi for both arches, the snug at the top, and the carpark at the front.

Figured it out - the alert was from when I rebooted the switch, probably eronious, and it cleared, but the error wasn’t cleared on the error log - so I kept trying to fix it.

What time approx did you restart the arch 2 network stuff? Trying to diagnose a fault on a machine…

“What on earth is… oh wait there’s the big CNC enclosure, ok” :joy:

I did a quick wave of my phone in the Wi-Fi space but did avoid walking around that whole space.

Heres’ it with a rough sketch of the space on top, left is the prediction, right is the data from last night roughly matched to the space, bare in mind the SLAM algorithm isn’t perfect as I don’t have LiDAR on my phone so it’s using a camera and acc/gyro to estimate movement.

@trrh may have some spare wifi repeaters if its required?

We’ve been donated a new switch recently which I plan to put in Arch 2, replacing the smaller non-PoE switch.

That will clear up the infrastructure cabinet in there and leave a spare which can go over by metal work, from there I can run another AP through the snug (if I can find power for an injector).

That should sort out Arch 1 Snug’s dead zone, and then I need to look at setting up another AP out the front of Arch 1 which is a massive mission because of the bike area.

Maybe when the weather is nicer I’ll put a call out for some helpers and we can run a cable there.

It would be helpful to know if @directors want to reinstate CCTV at the front of the arches as the old cameras and cable have been taken down, I could pull more cables all as one go.

Yea we have another AP donated as well…

Will discuss CCTV with the directors…

Outside coverage would be great as we get towards Spring and Summer!

If we want to do that, my suggestion is to swap the Unifi router we have to the somewhat newer Max version, sell the old one on eBay to offset the cost, and then install 2-4 cameras out the front.

That way we avoid having to setup and maintain a whole extra system.

The only thing I’d say other than member sentiment, is there is a workload to managing CCTV under the data protection act which we’d need to consider.
