We’ll keep it to SLMS members for now. It’s completely free, but might be nice to bring a bit of food to share?

Participants in the workshop will need to bring their own laptop and have downloaded the latest version of Blender

We’ll have filament available for the 3d Printer, and I’m trying to make sure we have some laser play on hand too.

Here’s a bit about Cities of the Imagination:

This is some of James’ thinking:

awesome! And I’d actually put aside Friday night to play around with some of this stuff. Now I can do it socially!

That was quick, nearly full. We can probably squeeze a few more in. Might be a good idea in case of unforseen dropouts.

A reminder to everyone about tonight’s workshop:

Starts at 7pm prompt,

Have blender installed on a suitable device, and bring that device with you.

Bring a pencil and paper (I’ll have a few spares)

Bring a bit of food to share.

If you’re able to come earlier to help set up that would be great! I’ll be there from 6.

Let us know if you can’t make it.

Anyone who wants to come but didn’t put their name down just put a post below and we’ll allocate if anyone drops out.

I’ll bring some mince pies and a couple of bags of crisps for people to snack on.

I’ll be there, I’ve got a big bag of sweet chilli crisps and some chocolate digestives to snack on too. I’ll be down around 6.30

piece of piss

Big thanks for James tonight and Dermot who organised it (I think!). It was a good night and very insightful into James’ vision and Blender has a software package. Much appreciated.

Thanks Rob, yes, I was the organiser for this one, and happy to do it.

Personally I thought the evening was a great success, though we didn’t get to the point of laser-cutting or 3d printing any cities. The possibilities that were opened up were huge.

I’m interested to hear any feedback, either here or message me. We’re new to this so it all helps.

Also: would people be interested in a longer version of this class, say once a week for a few weeks? This would need to be a charged-for class, so I’m looking to gauge interest.

On the subject of talks/workshops: we’ve got a great venue which was designed with this in mind. So any requests or thoughts about future events is greatly welcomed.

I would be interested in talks about entrepreneurship and small business marketing

I wonder what the best way to get this to work is?

Could make individual posts to test interest in each subject, and see what contacts we have with relevant knowledge? So, someone interested in entrepreneurship workshops would make a post and try to drive it forward.

OR:
Could have an editable wiki in the events section for members to post suggestions on a ‘wants/offered’ sort of system.

Let’s have a think. My guess is that the first approach might be more likely to yield results.

Any photos from this workshop? Be nice to have something for the archive in Flickr.

I have a talk related to that. I got a product to market, and now on the other side can deconstruct a modest success (you never hear about them, right - only outright failures or unreal successes…)

I had a small woodworking/3d printing business in South Africa making kids toys and name boards that helped pay the bills. I used facebook and gumtree to advertise as well as the local car boot sale. it worked well in South Africa but I’m really wondering how well it would translate to the UK
