I need electronics advice

Tags: #<Tag:0x00007fa4995f1618>

I have a door, picture below, that I am making into wall mount lighting art piece (oriented horizontally).

I would like to install an LED panel behind the window section, which I will be frosting for diffusion.

I would like to be make it so the user can either use it as just an accent light, or interact with it in some or various ways.

I am not sure where to start in planning the electronics hardware and software side of this project and would love some help!

Ideally, I would like to come to the space and sit down and discuss options with someone and walk away with some sort of bill off materials for an initial build of the panel. Id love to use commercially available parts as much as possible, but have no idea what’s available or optimal for this type of thing.

Any help, ideas, and suggestions welcome!

Can you come to electronics night on Thursday?

I’m very happy to help you with this.

Thanks! – Unfortunately, Thursday’s the only night I can’t do each week as I have class 7-9. There’s no rush on this one, though.

I’ll have a lot more time after mid August.
We can book a time to meet and work it out.

Learn to use a rather cool open source app called WLED. It utilises a micro controller called an ESP-32, which is essentially a mini IoT device with WiFi capabilities so it can be controlled wireless. It has scope for sensors that can trigger it automatically or it can just be switched on to run automatically at startup. The WLED app is very user friendly.

Your best tutorial to start you off could possibly be from ResinChemTech on youtube… and if you need some inspiration then Chris Maher also on youtube will give you plenty of ideas.

I’ve been learning all about it since Xmas. It’s a lot of fun.
