How to fix Bosch Batteries?

Anyone managed to fix Bosch power tool batteries before, mine seem to barely hold charge, had one charging for 8 hours lasted less then 5 minutes

The batteries in the battery pack have failed, they can’t be fixed, they need to be replaced.

I’m not sure what type the standard batteries are but people regularly build lithium battery packs for them.

I build lots of lithium battery packs, but I’ve never built one of these.

There’s lots of guides and kits online, I’m happy to help and or give advice if you want it. I also have tools and consumables.

It’s prohibited to build lithium battery packs in the space, but it can be done outside. I’d very strongly recommend never building them inside anyway.

Thank you! When are you next in the space to chat?

Every Thursday evening at electronics night.
I’m not currently in much apart from that.

Hopefully I’ll be there tonight, I’ll come through if so

But not Boxing Day

I posted some stuff about how to recondition batteries here, in case it’s any use:

Thanks dude! What kind of life expectancy are we talking for the batteries haha?

Disclaimer: I am not an expert.

Unfortunately the answer to that is “it depends”.

  • What technology does the battery use: LiIon, LiPo, NiCd, NiMH, …?
  • How has the battery has been (ab)used?

Assuming that it’s some sort of Li, if it’s been left discharged for a long time, that will probably kill it and there’s not much you can do about it, although it’s always worth trying to revive it.
Although I’ve not tried it, I’ve seen claims that the freezer trick sometimes works surprisingly well.

If the battery has been well treated:

  • not continuously discharged at full power too many times
  • not left on charge too long
  • not left fully charged or discharged for too long

it should last for at least 5 years or so.:crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

Unfortunately, in my experience, NiCDs which are well treated will last longer than LiIons, because charging&discharging them fully will usually revive them, while LiIons just slowly degrade regardless of what you do with them.
