Perfect… see you then @SarahJ
I’m afraid I can’t make tonight. But please do let me know if I can do anything…
The good news is that the stall will be near the actual space, and the space will be between Herne Hill centre and our stall. There’s a good chance we could get footfall there, so having the space active and inviting would be a win.
The bad news is that the weather isn’t looking too promising for having kit out on the stall. Chance of rain, could be very windy.
Other thoughts –
Do we have enough people to have two people on a stall and at least one in the space throughout? That would be ideal.
3D Printing is a good attractor, purely as a visual spectacle. If we can’t have that on the stall, it should be going, visible from the front doors. Who can run the Ultimaker who can also be there on Saturday?
We have a 40" screen and nice rolling presentation stuff. Keynote on a Mac is how I’ve done that before, but I can export to a video file. This could go in the arch. Would be even better on the stall.
I’m happy to lend my consumer vinyl cutter for the day. Not much power draw I’d think, so could work off a UPS / battery type setup. Cutting christmas cards could be done.
Is the laser cutter going to be operational? And there be a trustee-esque person to run it? (@Trustees)
What foam-board signs do we still have from previous events? Is the A3 colour laser printer ok for printing at least red if not full-colour? (@tomnewsom)
Our laser printer now refuses to print until we replace the empty toner.
The laser cutter is operational and re-induction is running tonight. Not sure who among us will be there on Saturday (not me at any rate)
I’ll be around, and will be laser inducted
@tomnewsom Thanks for the info.
@Dermot Great. Without wishing to jump the gun on @SarahJ and @Eileen, as a broad plan if you’re in the arch and others are between the arch and the stall then we should be able to wing this.
@SarahJ, @Eileen – I don’t think I can make it to the space tonight but I’d like to help with whatever you come up with. Perhaps I could phone? I probably can get to the space at some point Friday to meet and/or see if the screen can be got out.
That all sounds great. I think between us we should be able to pull it off. @Eileen I’ll see you in the space tonight to make plans. I’ll be there as close to 8.30 as I can.
I have some cord and tablecloth to use
This is the plan for the fair tomorrow:
We will use the stall to let people know we exist, and to direct visitors to the space. We won’t do any making or selling on the stall, but will decorate it and display examples of interesting things we have made, and talk to people who come by. In the space, we will hopefully have the 3D printer and laser cutter going and a presentation running. We will also have a pc in the space for people to sign up on the spot. We won’t offer any food or refreshments, there will be plenty of other places that day where people can get food and drinks.
Timings and volunteers so far:
9:00 - 11:00 - set up the space - @Dermot @tobyspark @peter_hellyer
9:30 - 11:00 - set up the stall - @SarahJ @Eileen
11:00 - 4:00 - fair is open. @SarahJ (11-12 & could come back at the end) @Eileen can be flexible re times) @Dermot (all day?) @tobyspark (all day?) @peter_hellyer (times?) anyone else who has already volunteered who I’ve missed?
4:00 - 5:00 - packing up ( more volunteers?)
We will really need at least 5 people here all day to make it work well - 2 on the stall, 3 in the space, and enough to swap when people get cold / want a break. @Members - any more volunteers??? Please? We are short for the afternoon shift, which will be the easiest one, as everything will already be set up, so it’s just manning the stall in the afternoon and packing everything back into the space at the end. I will put together some briefing notes for anyone new or not very confident about answering questions - please come down even if you can only do an hour or two - the more of us there are, the more fun it will be! It should be a really good way to show people what we’re about to meet potential new members who haven’t heard of us through any of the usual ways.
Still to do - print more flyers - can anyone print some flyers at work today? If a few people could do 100 each and drop them off on Saturday morning that would be great. The files are in a thread called “promotional materials” in “members”
I will print some flyers off and drop them at the space this afternoon on my way to the dentist.
That thread: https://discourse.southlondonmakerspace.org/t/promotional-materials/229
Don’t forget that they’re two-sided so you’ll need to use a printer with Suplex, or feed them back through to print the back.
I hope to be in the space on Saturday afternoon fiddling with the kitchen if i can do anything to help
I can bring some blinky bits in that can be used at the stall (hat with scrolling text, LED umbrella and some led goggles). I’m also hoping to work on levelling the laser cutter bed a bit more. Tom and I worked on it last night and it’s apparently now level left to right but not yet level front to back. Ideally I should get that done before 11 so it’s usable.
I’ll be catching a train at Herne Hill tomorrow, so can drop off the Bender head. Fun to wear
Great. Do you also have / could you print some big prints of the plans for phase 2 to display in the space? (It may be a bit of a mess now, but this is what it will look like soon…)
Sure. A3 big or A1 big?
Yes. That flooring is too small a quantity to be useful.
F**k that polystyrene.
@tobyspark… In relation to the presentation you are sorting, are there photo’s of work included in it? If not - is it possible to include some? I heard you have done some cool projects… Would be nice to show what has been done in the space… or if anyone else has some pics that could be included that would be good.
Lots of good stuff there
Whatever you think, we want to set up a section of the table to impress
