Help with protective bags

Good morning, fellow Makers!

The metalwork area needs you!

Specifically, we’re looking for a kind soul who knows their way around a sewing machine.

We’ve just given our welding helmets a much-needed revamp and realised how much damage dust has done over time. To help keep them in good condition, we’d love to make some simple protective bags—something like the ones in the picture below.

Then it hit me… we have an entire textile area! Maybe someone there could lend a hand?

We’re not after anything fancy—no need to worry about colour, fabric type, or style. As long as the helmets fit inside and there’s a drawstring or closure of some kind, we’re happy.

Ideally, we’re hoping to make 7 or 8 bags, but even just one or two would be amazing and much appreciated.

I’ve heard there’s a good amount of spare fabric available in the textile area, so hopefully we can make use of that?

If you’re up for helping out, please let me know.

Huge thanks in advance!

This is an example of what I am thinking.

Hi @stefanoromano do you have the dimensions of the helmets?

no, but the helmets are in the metal area just hanging above the parts washer, just outside the welding area

I may have one of the original bags for the one I donated. I’ll have a look and bring it in next time.

We’ll need to source some suitable material (easily done) as i don’t think the fabric/off cuts in the Texile Room will withstand Metal Shop where and tear

They would be just for light dust protection, I don’t think it’s worth spending any money…

Im sure that what we have will be good enough

I can try to make them myself, do I need an induction for the sawing machine?

No inductions for textiles area
