Help with Brother Innov-is M230E

So, I never touched a sawing machine in my life, I’m not really into textile but one of my friend want to argument his Santa’s costume with a custom label, he knows how to use a sawing machine.

I noticed we have a Brother Innov-is M230E, but I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on what kind of image format the Brother wants, jpg? bmp? the resolution?
and if there is anything important I should know about it.

Every help is appriciated, we really want to try to make it special for his son.

Details on how to use the machine is on the Tools Page - https://discourse.southlondonmakerspace.org/t/brother-innov-is-m230e-embroidery-machine/

I used it yesterday actually. You need to use Inkscape (so vector images, or trace them in Inkscape), and then use the Ink Stitch inkscape extension. After installing the extension it adds a tools menu where you can preview the stitch patterns and then do a regular File>Save As and save using the .pes file format.
Ink Stitch has decent documentation and you can control a whole load of things by changing the fills/stroke types etc of the artwork. I didn’t do anything fancy though and the results were ok.

Yes! We did this exact thing yesterday for custom labels! Printing on a red Satin with a silver thread. It worked out really well, I’m going to try some different fabrics out.

Can I share images? If so I’ll post what we did.
EDIT: posted. The thread connecting the letters can be removed. And yes, I’m aware now that Cocoa has an A on the end, but we ran out of room honest!

It’s got a few typefaces built in, and lets you do short sentences, but I think it’s more geared up for monogramming and initials rather than whole phrases.

Going to see what Ink Stitch can do next.

Has anyone tried using larger pieces of cloth in the embroidery machine? So instead of putting the embroidery on a patch and sewing that on, putting directly onto a t-shirt or something?

I’m concerned about the jig being able to move larger amounts of cloth about, which is why I’m asking.

I’ve embroidered directly onto t-shirts and shirts without any problems.

Yes, don’t worry about this, I’ve done this on a big pyjama top with a heavy fabric and it was all fine. Obviously best if you don’t let the fabric hang about the edge of the table

Amazing. I’m going to make SUCH FANCY THINGS
