Hi friends this is Jan, famous for setting the Laser on fire - this is not a Makerspace question but I humbly ask for your advice:
My cafe (NoNo in Brunswick Park) have this shipping container for storage and with the heat its doors deformed just enough to not close properly anymore. I want to help them expand the lock box so the latch fit in the hole again.
First I though to cut two slots with an angle grinder (cutting disc) but I felt standing right in the line of the disc could be an unaliving accelerator. A hole saw seems safer but probably slides off the hardened steel. A die grinder seems excellent but I can’t find a good one to rent/hire online.
If we are talking about a couple of millimeters, then a good file and 20min of sweat would do the job .
For anything more, a die grinder is the right tool for the job.
A hole saw for metal will cut it no problem, but you would have a horrible time trying to start the cut with no center for the pilot hole to register into.
Angle grinder could also do, but you would need to be extremely careful with it, and it would be something of a bodge job anyway.
Thank you folks - yeah I think half a centimetre is probably enough, it’s possible to close the door with a lot of force right now. I’ll try to find a die grinder - and if not a cooler day for a metal file.
