Have you seen a hot knife?

Hi there! I went for an induction yesterday. Thanks so much to the volunteers who took us round and explaind the space.

I mostly want to use the space to cut large pieces of PVC (3m wide, up to 2m long from a big roll of fabric), ideally with a hot knife, but potentially with fabric cutters.

Does anyone know if the space has a hot knife I might be able to use, or advise on the best table for spreading out a large roll of fabric? I think the only table I saw that seemed big enough was electronics (and appreciate that would only work with shears because of the fumes from cutting PVC). Would that be an ok use of space if I came during off-peak hours if others were not using the table?

Someone also suggested that the metal workspace might be suitable for this as there is an extraction fan?

Thanks for your advice in advance! All thoughts / considerations / warnings appreciated.

Absolutely do not cut PVC with a hot knife, full stop, ever. The fumes created from cutting PVC with heat are chlorine, which is deadly.

With PVC your only option is cutting with a sharp cold blade, or scissors. Depending on how complex your shape you need to cut is.

If you’re just needing to cut straight lines, a cutting wheel is a good option, or a stanley knife with a nice fresh blade.

If its more complex id go with scissors. Make sure you get some new fabric sheers and you will be fine.

If you do any cutting with a blade, please always cut on a cutting mat.

Cheers!
