HAM Radio antenna for QO-100 satellite

Hi all,

I built this antenna from a kit a while back, using a 90W soldering iron. It’s meant to be soldered with a torch, and unfortunately the solder joints weren’t great. Is there a torch at the Makerspace I can use, along with flux and solder? It’s basically copper plumbing tube and brass plates.

If anyone is keen to learn more about HAM satellites, RF or software-defined radios, let me know - I’m happy to talk about them all day

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike

There’s no open flames or even any gas allowed in the space. It’s an Arch Co rule.

I may have some plumbers soldering stuff at home somewhere, but I’m not sure where. If I find it, you’re welcome to borrow it.

Would like to talk RF one day, I use LoRa a lot and have very little knowledge about anything else!

I normally have my torch and plumbing gear with me in the car, we can do it outside easily

Happy to show off some tools, can bring an SDR and decode some LoRa devices - it’s a very cool RF protocol

@lewisss Thanks, that would be amazing! When are you usually at the Makerspace? I’m planning to do some laser cutting this weekend and next weekend. Are you around then?

Thanks
I’ve got a standalone SDR and a usb one, never really used them.

My latest toy is a frequency analyser combined with a directional antenna for finding sources of interference. There’s sometimes problems, I run LoRa networks at music festivals to monitor the wind (and now lightning).
