Foldable ebike, advice on where to leave it

Hi Guys,

My journey to the workshop currently takes about 50m by bike, so I was thinking of getting an ebike to get around. It brings the journey down to 30m.

I’ve read the rules and I’m aware we can’t leave bikes inside. The one I want to get is foldable and about the size of hand luggage when folded. Is there anywhere I can leave it where it will be safe?

Thanks,
Mo

Hi Mo,

Is there a reason it can’t be locked outside? We even have a beefy loaner lock. With often 10-20 members in the Space st a time it is hard to say no problem bring your bikes inside…

Thoughts?
Thanks,
Andy

I’m just worried about it getting stolen, it’s happened before, so I’m extra cautious.
Where’s the nearest bike rack? It seems they can get through any lock, even the very expensive ones.

I don’t have to buy one, I’m using the santander bikes at the moment, but the nearest bike station is a 20m walk from the workshop. I’ll be biking to work as well, so I’m exploring my options, since the only issue with owning one is where to put it when I arrive somewhere.

Thanks again

the bike rack is DIRECTLY opposite the door

And the area is very rarely empty.

I consider it a very safe area, but obviously that is for you and only you to judge

I didn’t see anything last I was there, maybe it was empty?
Are there any pictures on the site?

Here’s a picture of the rack when I got it last year. There’s also one further in the background. They’re not in the exact location but are still visible from our doors.

Nice, this looks pretty secure!
I was worried it would be out on the street. Any recommendations for a solid bike lock?

I would just get a mid-range Abus or whatever’s on offer at the shop. All locks can be removed with a grinder, so paying more just adds a few more seconds for the thief to spend cutting. So long as it can’t be cut through with cable shears, it’ll protect against casual theft.

Santander cycles don’t quite reach the Space, a lot of people use Lime bikes that you can leave right there…

That’s what I was using, but it can get a little tiresome after a few years. I went ahead and got the ebike I wanted, arriving in a few days

Thanks to everyone who helped out, appreciate it!
