today one of the aspiration filters popped off for some reasons blowing a lovely dust cloud over the woodshop.
While putting that back in position, I noticed the one next to it was heavily taped. Thinking it was just a hole in a bag or a misalignment, I took the tape off to adjust it, exposing quite a damage.
For the time being I put some new gorilla tape, but surely that need some more skilled fixing.
Hiya - yes, this is a known issue. A more permanent fix is needed but the root cause of the filters popping off is that the cleaning vanes aren’t being spun so the filters clog…
I want to spend some more time on this next month.
Theres visual evidence that the creases on the cylinders make for an escape route for dust
I’m more inclined to think that the case itself is prone to kinking because people use the straps too tightly. Its hard to iron out the already formed creases on the cylinders, so best practice might be to use weather sealing tape stuck to the cylinders and then teach everyone to not overtighten the straps but also to make sure the strap correctly aligns with the weather seal tape.
Unfortunately it’s more mundane than that - the wood pile got out of control and a heavy sheet of something fell onto the housing which buckled
It is a persistent leak though, you’re right - we want to try a better housing repair but it’s possible the unit (already second hand to us) is approaching end of life, so we’re looking at other possibilities too.
It’s tricky because we don’t want to spend a lot of time and money on a repair and only get 90% of the way to good air quality…
