DRO for metal lathe

The DRO on the metal lathe stopped working a while ago and they were taken off.
I wondered if there were any plans to fit new ones?
As they would be useful for the next stage of a project I am working on.
If not I will ask for advice on how to do it without them.

Hi @Stargazer3. The Z axis works.

The X axis is on the metal shop to do list for this week. If it’s not sorted in time for your project, feel free to reach out for help on those ‘old school’ precision techniques.

Thanks for letting me know.

Hi
I wanted to check if the X axis on the lathe is working?

Yes the X axis is working. It will need to be plugged in, which either myself or @stefanoromano would be happy to do for you. When are you hoping to use it?

This afternoon possibly, if you are in. Otherwise next weekend.

Ok. @stefanoromano may well be there now. I’m not in until 4-ish to help run the lathe induction this evening. Regardless, I will see if can be left plugged in for you for another day.

Other options: the dial on the lathe is very accurate if you can deal with backlash. It’s metric and from 0 to 10 reduces the diameter of the part by exactly 1mm. Accurate to 0.05 with care.

Dial indicator. These will take you down to 0.01 of a mm.

@Stargazer3 Apologies David. I misread your message. It is the Z axis that is working. To indicate the X axis you need to follow the instructions in my reply earlier. I will be there shortly if you need help with that. Again, sorry for the confusion.
