Does using the portable router requires an induction first?

It needs an Assessment as per Hand Held Router - Festool OF 1400 EBQ (Basically an induction but more ad-hoc).

Please be aware we will mostly cover safety, so please bring mandatory steel toe booths and your own mask. You will find goggles and ear protection at the makerspace.
Can I join the session too?
Hi Emanuele, I have steel toe boots back home in Northampton so I’ll have to wait end of the month to pick them up. I believe I cannot do the induction without them for now? I understand it is a safety measure so I thought I’d ask just in case.

Yes, you surely can. I am organising the induction with another member and you are welcome to join. PPE mandatory equipment appl to anyone in order to go ahead with the induction.
Please DM to arrange a date, which will probably will the 19th, morning.
Alright, in this case I’ll post another message to set up another induction when I’ll have the steel boots with me this time.

Hmm, getting a little confused with this thread. Is the assessment still on for the 19th even if the OP is unable to make it? I should be able to make it and can DM too to confirm.
Is this a new requirement for wood workshop inductions? The wood workshop page mentions them, but doesn’t make them mandatory “sensible, comfortable shoes that cover the whole foot … Steel toe-caps are ideal” Wood Workshop - Introduction & Basics
I decided to make them mandatory for my inductions and I would suggest @woodtechs to re-think that phrasing you are mentioning.
As we are operating materials and powertools that could give us users, lifetime permanent damages.
As we are talking mainly about safety of use, I prefer to suggest members how to bring back home their workpiece AND all fingers limbs, eyes, earing, as all the mentioned are not easily fixable.
Still toe shoes nowadays are comfortable (designed for long standing sessions), long lasting, fashionable (TKMaxx last year had quite a number of cool Timberland) and at reasonable price (I bought mine, brand new, at a charity shop for £30).
The kind mentality of “I won’t wear steel toe cap in a workshop, because I am better than that” is quite outdated and not progressive. We are makers, we improve the world around us.
Accidents will happen, but let’s keep them accidents, not consequences of our daily negligence.
No insurance will cover that.

Thanks for clarifying. I’m not anti PPE, it just wasn’t clear to me if this was a new requirement for using these tools.
Obviously, if after the induction, members will decide not to use PPE and steel toe caps, it will be on them following their own decisions and responsibility. I don’t feel to promote such a behaviour during the inductions, when managing heavy equipment spinning at speeds faster than any human being reactions.
