Cutting LASER SAFE wood to size to fit laser bed

Hi All,

I was wondering if there will be anyone in the space on either Thursday evening (from 7pm) or Friday (from 1pm) who is table-saw trained, that would very kindly be able to help me cut some sheets down to size?

There’s 5 sheets that need 2 cuts each, only taking a few cm off either edge to get them down to the size of the laser bed.

Thank you!

Is the material laser-safe?

Yes I’ve had it checked twice and used it twice on the laser. I wouldn’t use a material that isn’t laser safe, I’m not that stupid.

Seems you’re cursed to always have that question thrown at you

Next time describe the material as “laser safe sheets that need cutting down”, maybe?

Might stop the sensible but repetitive questions

It seems so!

Very good idea. I’ll make poster, provide links and highlight it in bold. Just incase! Then maybe someone will help me cut some LASER SAFE wood

I see your name all over the forum and I immensely admire the effort you put into improving and growing the space! You give me impostor syndrome with your knowledge of electronics!

That said, I will gently challenge your post here:

Among this self-selecting crowd of makers and geeks and artists, I expect a certain level of trust, you know, “innocent until proven guilty” type of thing. If you were in the space and you saw someone using the laser, would you walk up to them and ask them if what they’re cutting is laser safe?

Sadly a small number of people seem to sometimes cut non-laser safe materials in the laser.

This often covers the machine in debris, and gunk but also can also emit toxic fumes and makes the space smell. (Yes some of the laser safe plastics also give off toxic fumes, but I mainly cut plastics in my laser and know what they smell like).

If an unusual smell came from the laser or from the exterior vent, then yes I would (nicely) check that the material was laser safe.

Sometimes the flames are also a bit of a give away

Do you know anyone who could help with getting the laser safe wood cut?

Sorry, I’ve only done the basic woodshop induction, I’m not able to use the table saw.

If can’t find anyone else, I could do it with the track saw Thursday evening
