Cutting a wooden log into slices

Any one know how I can cut a wooden log into slices?
The log is say 40cm X 40cm in girth.
I want the slices to be say 10cm thick.
The top and bottom would be flat but the sides wood be…,.well…log shaped.

Big ass bandsaw

There’s a local guy who does this IIRC?

Thicknesser? If you only wanted one…

EDIT: this wasn’t meant to be in response to chainsaw… There’s a local guy who deals in timber…?

Ah yes. The mobile sawmill. I’ll try and dig the details out.

I need four.
But the finish needs to be good.
Would the thin-Es-err screw up the grain?
As the slices would be done horizontally (if the tree was still standing vertically).

They’re basically chair seats.
(Don’t worry not for the Makerspace memorial garden)
The seats are metal frame but the fabric has gone on them so Iris wants to replace the fabric seats with tree trunk slices.

I know someone with a bandsaw. Could work.

But maybe this other guy has better ideas.

Let me know.

Thanks guys.

And her bandsaw is in Hackney so bit of a treck

Depends on the log , is it green? Is it straight ? What sort of wood is it ect

Or a bowsaw hard work but I have done it

He wants cross cut, not planks.

If its still standing and thus green it will need a rip blade with a very big set on it .

Chan saw is probably the best way sorry I lent mine to someone who buggerd the engine

the logs are in the community garden.
they have been sitting in the garden for over a year.
they are old logs.

just like the one in the pic

thats the ticket!

I misunderstood too.

Yes, a chainsaw is the tool!

Where is mine…

Get it indoors and let it dry property. And our new bandsaw might be able to do it if not a chansaw will do it wet

Or better still a big ripsaw

Well will be a long job but with good results! Let it dry indoor, cut with the big bandsaw set it dry again for a while and to finish the best thing I think is sanding! The planer or the thicknesser will not mess up with the grain, au contrair could be q really nice finish but I’m almost sure that they are to small to be handled safely on that machine… So… SANDPAPER IS YOUR FRIEND! Hahaha

There’s no such thing as a slice-nes-er then?
:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Well actually there is… BUT We just don’t have it… Hahahah
Oh, people cutted logs with handsaws for millennia I would give it a try! Sometimes is less hard than it seems! (good sharp handsaw thou!)

Drying indoors risks splitting. The best way to season takes years though. Do you know what wood it is?
