Cornwall walks

My mother is visiting for the first two weeks of August and would like to do some excursions in Cornwall area. Long walk/hike type stuff to see the lands.

Any recommendations?

The whole coast of Cornwall is part of the South West Coast part. I just started the section in Cornwall so not sure yet which part is the best. Lizard Point and Land’s end supposed to be beautiful.

I love the Dorset coast on the way to Cornwall. In Cornwall, Dartmoor National Park is the place where Richard Long has done many long walks: it’s astonishing!

I can confirm on land’s end area. Beautiful for walks starting from Penzance to west and north

Hi Neil, A place called mouse hole (yes honestly a place named after a furry critter ) the place where 20th centurary pottery / copper and the arts and crafts movement really took off from this small place. Keep well . Brian D=

Basically any costal path. My Dad at one point was plotting on a map every coastal walk he did and was trying to eventually have walked all of the costal paths.
If you can find any walks with old tin mines on route, they will be great for visitors, history and landscape mix.

There’s a good circular route if you get the ferry across the river at Fowey, go round Pont Pill and back with the other ferry.

The coastal trail is good but can get very busy in August - I’d avoid Land’s End itself and aim for less touristed parts maybe. The Helford River valley is pretty special and has wonderful remaining fragments of temperate rainforest tucked into its folds. The Lizard Peninsula has some good secret corners. Second Dario’s suggestion of Dartmoor on the way down - just got back from a few days there myself - bronze age villages, wild horses and forested valleys spread across high moorland.

Dartmoor is also amazing, although Devon not Cornwall

Hello, I’m new. I saw your post and wondered if you’d seen Rambles Beyond Railways. It’s by Wilkie Collins way before tourism. He travels around Cornwall ‘a foot’ and I thought it may be a nice perspective for your trip. Its available for free on Gutenberg press and you can read about it here https://devonandexeterinstitution.org/too-rarely-visited-and-too-little-known-wilkie-collins-rambles-beyond-railways-or-notes-in-cornwall-taken-a-foot/
Have a nice trip

Hi Neil - I spent a couple years down there and love the place - really depends on her fitness level - one of my favs is the the walk from St Ives - which is a cool place to start as you can visit the town - see the barbara helpworth museum, Tate, etc… and then set off down the costal path toward the Gurnards Head (pub/rest of same name which has GREAT food…) its about 6 miles and the coast is fantastic! Another is take the ferry from Falmouth over to St Mawes - then another little ferry - only in summer! - and over past St Anthonys lighthouse - much shorter but really nice sea and cliff views - Hope that helps! Lemme know if you have an quesitons
