Anyone can recommend a good place to buy CNC cutting bits in the UK? I’m on the hunt for a drag knife holder and they appear to come in many forms… Anyone used one and can recommend which one works ok ?
I also found 3D printed one:

I normally purchase our CNC equipment from Ali express or APT. In some occasions from Amazon.
Do you plan to use it on our big cnc?
Thanks for that and no I bought myself a FoxAlien 3s this week that I can used in my studio as ive got some commercial work needing done my laser cutter just cant do. We building it over the easter hols so want to make sure I have some bits to cut with
Ok superb. Because Afaik you need a way to control the spindle rotation via the controller for drag knives to work and our cnc can’t do that at the moment.
Can you not just make sure the spindle is set to “Off” to stop it rotating?
I made a 3d printed one and did test with Federico on the big CNC. VCarve has settings for drag knife which are useful. Spindle just needs to be off. The offset of the blade means it swivels around to the direction it’s being dragged along.
Is it possible to share your 3D printed file so I can have a go myself or if made in fusion that file so we can mod it if needed? My spindle is 1/4 inch
Sure. Need to get bearings, rod, spring etc. Some design tweaks are still needed. Might be ok if printed in PLA-CF with 100% infill or possibly nylon. Best to make on on the metal lathe - but that’s longer term.
These things are crazy expensive to buy, there would be a market on ebay for you to sell them
There are various designs out there. As I discovered, a good spring mechanism is pretty essential if working on a largish bed. I’d adapt to have adjustable tension using a locking shaft collar. The Mk1 was mounted in the spindle. I’d think if going to be for general use, then better to have attached to the side of the spindle (like the pen plotter attachment) - like this:

Thanks Dan
@dannz what software did you use to create your test, asumming Vcarve?
Yes - vCarve.
