Can anyone help me kick-start a RapMan3?

I have acquired a RapMan3 but I have yet to put it to work! I don’t think it has any faults but it hasn’t been used for about 4 years and as a complete novice to 3D printing I could do with some guidance.

I could bring it to Makerspace or I could arrange a visit to my workplace (Elmgreen School, Tulse Hill) any Saturday morning.

Id be happy to help but im not around much at the moment.
Ill be down next Thursday for μMeet if you would like to bring it down then.

Have you got all the supporting bits and pieces?
Cables, copies of firmware and some filament to try?

Gordon

Hi Gordon,
Thanks for your interest. I will try and bring the machine over on Thursday as you suggest.

I have a 12v transformer and filament. So far I have only attached power and operated the X and Y movement manually.

I’m not sure about firmware - I think it is installed on the control unit and needs only the appropriate file on an SD card (there is a card reader slot).

I can’t find the manual just now but if I don’t I’ll download and print another.

I should be there on Thursday too.

I’ll lend a hand if needed… While being aware what too many cooks do…

If you are going to operate this from a laptop it would be a good idea to bring it along to set up the software you will need to prepare the files for printing and to test/setup the machine.

Hey Robin,

I have a half built printer that I want to get working. I am rather with work at the moment (I’m a Teacher at City Heights, just up the road from you). Maybe in a few weeks we could meet in the space and make some progress with getting both printers working.

Hi Stuart,

Sure - it would be good to share our experience. Gordon was very helpful (and generous with his time) in helping to identify the problem with mine (firmware rather than mechanical). Is your machine from a kit, based on an existing design or a complete one-off?
