Camper van conversion advice

Hi everyone,

I’ve just starting out on a big project converting our ford transit into a camper van! It’s clear quite a few of these have pulled up outside the arches over the years and I’ve already chatted to a few people in the space with lots of helpful tips.

We’re just starting out and have so far removed all the panelling and flooring (if anyone has need of pretty much perfect condition PVC panelling and nonslip flooring for a ford transit mk7 just let me know) and I’m planning to cut the holes for the windows and fan this weekend and install them. I’m wondering if anyone that’s done this before might have any advice to offer (bit of scary one :face_with_peeking_eye:).

Does the space have a metal cutting blade for the jigsaw I can use for this or should I buy one to bring along?

I have lots of questions about how best to approach the electrical side of the things so if anyone is up for a chat that would be amazing.

Thanks for any wisdom in advance!

Cheers,
James

I’ve never done a full conversation, but I drove an converted Alphard for a while, and my take is, do not underestimate isolation, put sound dampening or even thermal dampening in the cabin, you never know were you end up sleeping, especially on the move, and the last thing you want to do is having bad night of sleep because of cold and/or noise after driving all day and before driving all day.

The other thing is, make sure you have fuses on everything for electronics and switches and always check the standby power of whatever you put in, especially if is a portable fridge, waking up to a dead accessory battery it’s no fun.
