I’m hoping to build some stuff for a TV/YouTube video series thing, this weekend - namely some “portable” flats which can collapse down into a relatively small size.
Going for the simple construction, no fancy joints, just screw n’ glue. Bolts, washers and wingnuts to secure it when in use.
I was going to have a friend helping me, but due to some scheduling issues he’s no longer available.
I’m not sure what the easiest way to get the materials needed to the space might be - I don’t drive, so I guess I could get them delivered , unless anyone knows a better option. If someone had a van and some spare time I could provide recompense for the help
Ah! Mainly, because we don’t have proper stage weights to hand, but we do have things we can hang things off. Having said that, if we do find some stage weights, that’s totally what we’d do
I’m potentially there all day … should we say from 11? Hopefully I will have got all the materials by then. Turns out I’ve got Saturday as well, so I might have done it all by then (will PM you if that happens!)
Saturday would be better for me actually; I have an event in Waterloo on Sunday at 1PM, so would have to leaves after 12. Saturday, however, I was planning to be at Makerspace in morning for CNC demonstration which now isn’t happening, so… will you be starting Sat. morning?
Ah. Well. Looks like this project is going to be a bit over budget now (got quotes for the materials… more than I’m willing to shell out on this particular project…).
However, I will still try to build a (previously unmentioned) light box - should be OK on my own for that one! Thanks for the offer, though!
I’m going to pop to a DIY superstore on the way over to pick up a few bits for the light box, so will probably be there around 11 on Saturday. Saturday’s aim will be to make the light box, I think! Hopefully I can laser it up reasonably easily.
Going for an alternative approach and going to use a backdrop kit for the main background, rather than proper flats.
Also need to work out some way of holding a tool board up, something like this:
Such that it could be in the background of the shot. My friend is now free on Sunday, so hopefully he can help out with that. It’ll probably be a construction similar to a flat, with somewhere to put a sand bag at the back to stabilise it.
Still not entirely sure how I’m going to get the timber required for that to the space (the thin ply in the lucky dip stash should be useful for putting a skin on it though)… maybe I can get them cut from a store so they’ll fit in my friend’s (small) car.
Running a bit later than expected , coming straight to the space then assessing what offcuts might work (recycling ftw) and if needed pop out to a relatively near by DIY store to obtain anything extra.
