we used to have days, normally a Saturday, where someone would write a post title Make The Space and organise infrastructure work on the space.
These days in the past would get a lot of members down and work heavily on arch infrastructure.
We haven’t run these for a while and there’s not so much infrastructure work happening now.
Partly due to the vast bulk of it being completed, but there is still a lot to do.
If there are members out there frustrated by any of the infrastructure that isn’t finished I who would like to encourage you to step forward and organise and or contribute to these Saturday Make The Space Days.
I have found these days extremely enjoyable and great at building confidence and making friends. You WILL learn loads and have fun.

some ideas im having to to promote members contributing there time and getting involved.
not always obvious how to for new / old members.
i think this could be made more obvious and accessable to new members.
why?
because im sure that there is members energy that isnt being put to use because its not easy enough to contribute a couple of hours of work to the space.
laser cut a sign - “Your Space needs YOU!” like the old WW2 one. get some “help the space” vibe going on. create some buzz around members helping out.
maybe re-brand “Make The Space Days”. their time is up. we now have smaller projects that people can work on not massive infrascture projects (the snug (phase 3) being the excpetion that proves the rule). Something like “Help the Space Days”. These need organising poblicising.
We need to make it really easy for members to feel involved and contribute some of there time. it needs to be much easier for a member to contribute a couple of hours on small one off tasks that are 100% clear and speced. for example: laser cut a box to hold electronic insulating tape x 2 (one for each bench).
Perhaps a to do list that techs can add small tasks to that they would like doing. managable tasks. clearly defined. there could be a list page and a detailed item page describing the job using a standerdized format for clarity. maybe a dynamic job list and job details list couple of PHP pages.
i think currently the to do list could be easier to view / interpret. we need to make it easier for people to get involved. we can could put a bit of effort into making it easier for newbies and oldies to contribute time more easily in bite sized chunks.
the idea of this is to impprove 2 things:
make it easier for people to contribute a bit of time. this helps people to feel included and for them to learn and improve skills, and gets little jobs in the space ticking over. to give them a sense of ownership in the space that they co own. to help switch the light on in the head that says “this is my space! it will only get better if i contribute. How do i do that? i shouldnt be waiting for someone else to tell me what to do. if i ask around and check with a few bods i can make a contribution.”
make it easier for techs to add jobs to a list so they can a) have a check list b) easily delegate the work to others.
