Bookbinding Sesh

Hi everyone, gauging interest and availability for a bookbinding workshop, 7th April, afternoon/evening, can be flexible. Running one later in the weekend for randoms and want a bit of practice.

We’ll cover no-stitch book making, Saddle Stitch binding, Japanese-ish Punch binding, and the innovative new “ Empty Hardback” Technique. If you have any scrap paper, you wanna use a cover, or existing drawings/writing that you’d like to Bind, bring em along!

If you’re keen, respond to this and I’ll book a space. Will only be able to have 10 or so people. If all goes well And the interest is there, may be doing more of these

Let me know If this goes well. I’ve threatened many times to get a book binding toolbox together. Teflon folders, linen thread, awls, a few pairing/paper/clip point shoe knives, dividers, some nice steel rules etc.

I can see if our paper conservation department have any spares.

Other wise, we can crowd fund the rest? Would be happy to make a pledge drive. I would imagine about £100 for a couple sets of tools.

Yh that could be great! I’ll let you know how we do, the idea with this other one is good trying to use household, eg wine cork + needle ~> awl, spoon~> bone folder. But some nice metal rules and threads would be wicked going forward.

Actually I’m also buying some equipment which could mid-term loan to the space while we get a pledge drive going

Yh definitely keen for more if the demand is there, but feel free to bring kids along if thats the issue! Would be fun

I’d be interested if it’s in the evening

Another time I’d love to come and join
Hopefully it goes well, and maybe bookbinding might start to become a more regular part of the space

Definitely interested, but away this weekend and monday :frowning: Let me know when the next one is! (for me Evenings better / Fridays better)

Hello, I’d be interested but I’m not free on 7th April. I’ll be in today in the screen print area if you’d like to say hi :waving_hand:

I would be interested if it’s in the evening - otherwise definitely another time! I have a book press, some book cloth and some board that could be used for hard covers that I could bring if helpful

Okay sorry for chaos, just wondering if Wednesday evening would also work? That would work better for me, travelling down to London and would require a bit of an early morning tmr @Lia @AnaMorgana @Zilan @Martyn_Thomas @jwa

Just a Heads up, the new laser is very big and very in the way at the moment. didn’t have much room to do mook binding in the messy area on Saturday solo so good idea to book out the main table.

That being said made a little note book over a couple of days. Been a hot minute since I made a book! The little nipping press is really useful and the guillotine will do 3mm grey mill board comfortably. we are a bit short on good steel rules at the moment and had to borrow one from textiles.
