I made a mistake, which caused a small haircut to one of the metal fixing points. This was because I did not realise starting depth defined on a cut is in addition to cut depth, rather than total cut depth. I was adding to my final thru material cut because the right hand side of the bed seems not to cut as deep as the left hand side, and was trying to save time by skipping the first 10mm of the cut. Photo attached,
My apologies, shouldn’t affect anything and the bit seemed to show no damage.

Easy mistake to make, in the interest of highlighting checks I find useful, and to help others:
I’m pretty sure the x axis view (in LinuxCNC) would give you advance warning of this, you should be able to see the overall depth the bit is planning to go from where you touch off (as the negative measurement on the axis)
Will try and test later to confirm, but if anyone is interested and finds I’m wrong, please let me know as it would be interesting to know
The through material check would have highlighted it as well but I didn’t read it because that was the intention of the operation, but i was only intending to go 1-2mm
Another sanity check might be to monitor the Z depth while the bit is plunging and hit pause if it goes beyond your expectations of material thickness
