With the success of market sales, I need a way to transport a full booth setup around.
So I will build a cargo trailer for my bike.
Day 1:
Order cheap 16" bike wheels and design the frame to fit a folding table and 84L tubs.
Day 2:
Repurpose scrap steel from snug tear-down for frame. Clean off paint and rust. Tack initial shape and square up.
Day 3: 28 May
My wheels arrived today, so I was finally able to adjust the axle bearings and take some measurements for the wheel supports. I designed and cut the wheel mount bars from more if the same tubing.
To make it easier to get the spacing correct and mitigate twisting between tubes, I clamped up a weld jig. After getting the whole thing tacked up, I banged and bent the last few pieces into reasonable alignment.
Final hours of day were spent grinding off some pretty chunky welds. Overall the welds turned out better than I’d hoped after 15 years since my last welding project. Took a few tries to get the settings dialed in reasonably well. Even then, small adjustments depending on the type and orientation of the seams helped quite a bit.
Days 4 & 5:
After a harrowing three rounds of ordering and returning tube and tyre sets, I got the wheels done. And I’ve deciphered wheel and tyre sizing conventions.
With the wheels complete, I cut, drilled, and ground out the dropouts. Manged to get them welded on relatively aligned… I think. Likely will need to adjust with an angle grinder a tad.
Day 6: 6 June
Measured and welded the attachment struts. Tore down some pallets for the bed.
Day whatever:
Done!
Frame painted. End caps printed. Flags mounted. Hitch tested.
