Hi Team just wondering who the best and easiest suppliers are for laser ply?
Cheers,
N
I usually use https://kitronik.co.uk
usually next day delivery if ordered before 3pm they use UPS.
Thanks!
I have used Kitronik and also https://hobarts.com
Its all much of a muchness to be honest.
Kitronik do great things in education so I usually support them.
Dermot has often mentioned Witton Timber.
They cut to size.
But guess depends sizes you want.
Update: it’s in Peckham I think
Cheers team!
There is a place out by Dartford that’s very cheap
Also, Kitronik do a poplar ply which is lighter than birch. Cits better, engraves nicely but isn’t really as good structurally. Makes good door signs…
I’ve used These guys Whitten timber.
Order by phone and they usually get it in the next day and will cut to size for a small fee. Works out similar price to Hobarts, but you have to collect it from the timber yard in Peckham.
The ply for the sign projects was:
1525 x 1525 x 4mm laser ply £17.95+ each plus cut charge £0.95+ vat per cut
They worked out approx= 508x762mm (give or take the odd mm for the kerf of the saw blade).
NOTE: this is bigger than the cutting area of the Trotec, so that won’t suit everyone.
Cheers mate.
The material in the storage rack is that just a free for all ? I just want to do some tests etc
The full sheets of ply are manly for the Norwood Road sign project. But I’ve probably used what I need for now. £4 a sheet if you want one. Anything that isn’t a full sheet is free for all.
Anyone getting some more ply soon and want to split delivery fees? I need to order some 9mm poplar ply from hobarts
Can I suggest that as we were talking towards the end of last year about some kind of honesty box system for materials for the laser cutter such as ply and acrylic .
We have a trial with some laser birch ply.
hobarts do this pack
https://hobarts.com/sheet-materials/wood/laserply_124_15_56/laser-grade-birch-plywood-wood-sample-pack-p-1033.html
Pack consists of the following:
3mm Birch ply 10x sheets
4mm Birch ply 10x sheets
6mm Birch ply 10x sheets
cost is £100.50 + £11.42 shipping = £111.92
if we charged £4 a sheet total returns would be £120 (£8 profit)
I would be quite happy to pay £5.00 a sheet to have the convenience of materials such as ply and acrylic on hand at the space and not have to pay shipping.
if we all did this we would end up with a £38 profit on a pack which over time would allow us to add materials
such as acrylic to the (stock) available to the space.
( going to start a separate thread for this)
