Bench dogs for mft

I was speaking with a member of the space the other day. He thought it would be a good idea to have some standard bench dogs for the mft.
I think there is a pair of expensive ones but they are stored out of sight.
These can be stored in a couple of vacant holes on the mft.
In conjunction with the threaded bench dog clamps, wood thicker than 16mm can be immobilised, whilst still allowing full access to the surface. They can also be used as planing stops.
Lets see if they are useful.
This project highlighted a weakness in my turning.
Facing cuts with a skew chisel are brilliant because they leave a perfectly smooth shiny surface.
I can make facing cuts on surfaces which face the tailstock. Surfaces which face the headstock are a different matter altogether.
A facing cut would be used to smooth the majority of the top of the bench dog for instance.
I tried different grips and stances. It’s very difficult. Being able to work in both directions is sometimes the only way of getting the job done. I will find a way.
Its possible to gain insight from the simplest project.
Onwards!
